The paintings convey the taste that arises when the palate encounters wine. This is achieved through the associative role of color—the red of Teran, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon; the golden-yellow of Malvazija; and the white-gray of Pinot and Muscat—as well as through symbolism and a tendency to eliminate all but the most essential painterly elements. Just as when drinking wine, the superfluous is eliminated so that we can indulge in flavors and aromas for a moment. To achieve this, Axel Becker uses colors, corks, corkscrews, and cork stoppers.
